Lithium Battery Banks Rock!!!

The IT Sailor is a new section on our website designed to leverage my 30+ years of experience to help others understand how their boat technology works.

There is a lot of discussion about Lithium, so much of it is very misleading. Did you know for instance that Lithium is actually a generic term that covers many different types of battery chemistry? and that LifePo4 chemistry is incredibly stable and arguably just as safe as Flooded Lead Acid, perhaps safer with a BMS.

There is a Whitepaper that helps explain it and advantages and disadvantages of Lithium batteries on a boat, called

WHITE PAPER – MARINE ELECTRONICS – Battery Banks for Household Loads: Lithium

Lithium batteries are not the best for everything, but they are also worth understanding as they might change your life.

  1. Do you have more details about your lithium setup? We have battleborns, but they’re not optimized for the space of our fiberglass boxes in the bilge. So, to upgrade, I have to build new boxes, or switch to a more modular setup.
