Strap on …. That Dinghy

Quite a few boats carry their dinghy lower than you might want given a decent following sea. Waiata is like that and although it looks ok, we’ve had the dinghy bashed hard by big following seas a few times.

So how do you make sure you don’t launch your dinghy off a wave? Well we use loading straps on bigger voyages to strap the dinghy up onto the davits tightly and not allow any movement.

It gives us another couple of points of holding and also spreads the load and stops “wave bashing” from being a worry on the dinghy’s longevity.

Nothing like getting to the other side of the Atlantic to find you no longer have a dinghy on board. Strap that thing down!!!
