Turn on AIS Tracking

If your Chart Plotter is capable you should turn on AIS tracking.

Being able to see the track of a boat you may need to avoid has many advantages and can help keep your decisions correct.

The rate of turn (ROT) for instance, displayed on AIS (Automatic Identification System) for a ship might not tell you the truth and just be a rolling action of the sea, but the track will tell you if it has turned to avoid you or if you still have a problem.

AIS track is a fast reliable way to understand the path and intentions of a dangerous target.
