Dipping My Toes Into Luxury at Nikki Beach Club

On Saturday I unexpectedly partied at the lavishly indulgent Nikki Beach Club, dipping my toes into the luxury party resort and its hedonistic offerings.

Nikki Beach Club from our opium bed

I was coerced into going by our buddy boat friends and their grown kids and entourage.  The youngsters had flown in from South Africa and London for a holiday stint, and after we had all waved farewell to Kotor, we had headed back to Tivat where Nikki Beach club is located. It is one of eleven multi-faceted Nikki Beach Clubs located around the world.

The visitors had booked a poolside ‘opium bed’ for eight people  The young crew had undertaken a ‘taste test’ spending the previous day there. They had enjoyed it so much, they decided that it was worthy of indulging two days in a row and were adamant they be joined.

Chilled beer, was accompanied with champagne and latterly, vodka

And so, “yes” was the answer, “let’s do it”. There is no time to change – I only had on swimmers, a hat and sunglasses. There is a boat chauffeur and concierge service, where they simply pick you up from your yacht or launch which delivers you within seconds to the boat club dock.

The music was pumping with their resident DJ, the live element was reinforced with a live saxophonist who hails from Sicily, and lived in Paris, and now part of the Montenegrin scene who dances his way around the pool blowing his brass. There are dancing gals and guys and an on-site acrobat who has a very bendy body and is like a human pretzel. A “Cirque de Soleil” type performance pool-side ensued.

Helga and me – wearing our celebrating life sunnies

There are ocean pools and terrace pools – irrespective, the pools were cool and the people were hot … and the prices over the top.  Courtesy fans and sunglasses are provided branded “Nikki Beach – celebrating life”. It is a venue that celebrates life to a decadent degree, but many may not realise that the name “Nikki Beach” and its “celebrating life” tagline originates from the beach clubs being named after founder Jack Penrod’s daughter Nicole, who tragically lost her life in a car accident when she was 18. The clubs are designed to reflect her young life’s passions and values.

In view of the red submarine post I made just a couple of days ago, I had to laugh when I saw ‘yellow submarines’ poolside. These are filled with bottles of Veuve Clicquot and sprayed over the faces and bodies of the party people. There is a video of the champagne submarine viewable here

It was a a fun party day under the sun and memorable for all of the right reasons. It was an experience, and on a personal level I should have stopped partying before the vodka arrived. Thankfully the boat chauffeur safely ferried me back to Captain Greg and Waiata.

So, that was Saturday. Our second last day in Montenegro spent indulgently at the Nikki Beach Club. We have enjoyed this country far more than we thought we would. Tomorrow we set sail for a new country, new experiences, and a busy time with groups of friends set to join us. Next up we hope you come along for the ride – in Croatia!

‘In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed on to the sun
‘Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine”
