A Room with a View

Job Done. We have created a new room!

The windows and door have been sewn and hung.  Job done!  That means we now have proper self-made protection and privacy giving enclosure.  It is an entirely new room and virtually doubles our living space.

The first event held in the new space was a solo event.  I popped in my ear pods, hit my favorite dancing playlist featuring all of my favorite anthems and disco divas, and boogied on down in our newly created private club!  We’ve also shared our new venue with others!  We’ve already entertained and had friends over to imbibe limoncello, ouzo, and Greek beer.

Its completion has set off a chain reaction of ideas for use of the space.  It is a chameleon space – it’s a party room, an exercise/gym/yoga room, an additional dining room, and a laundry drying room during inclement weather for starters. It is a life-enhancing addition in every respect.  But it wouldn’t have happened without Captain Greg having the determination, courage, and confidence to back himself and actually make the patterns and sew it.  All because his mum took the time and showed him how to sew something half a century ago (when he was still a boy in single digits).  He had to haul all of that boyish learning into the 21st century; the ability to recall itself being quite a feat.  And we’re thrilled with it.

There are still a couple of side windows to go in but otherwise, now it’s just down to aesthetic improvements which may include a mirror ball and a range of ambient lighting options.  You can check it out here. Recommendations gladly received!

“You took a mystery and made me want it
You got a pedestal and put me on it
You made me love you out of feeling nothing
Something that you do
And I was there and not dancing with anyone
You took a little, then you took me over
You set your mark on stealing my heart away
Crying, trying, anything for you”
– the terrific Diva, Miss Diana Ross.  You can listen here

  1. Mate, absolutely sterling job, simply amazing!!! Connie, you’ll need to sharpen up your seamstress skills 🙂

    1. Oh he’s just too clever for words isn’t he! A great all rounder – maybe I’ll just take up knitting! Or fishing!

  2. LoL my mom also gave me some training on her sewing machine (which she hated, as experienced with it as she was—too much manual labour in her youth) and I’ve been fascinated by them ever since. Good show Captain!

    1. You never fail to surprise me Lindsay. I must say it was a challenge to build but very satisfying in the long run. Creative jobs like ours don’t often come with manual, create with your hands, satisfaction. I enjoyed it.

  3. Wow, wow, and double Wow. I take my flat cap of to you Greg, what a fantastic job you’ve made of that Bimini.
Looks like a new business opportunity is on the horizon and if you were to be in need of any fettlers then let us know and myself and Marian will be over like a shot.
I’m sure that Connie will be more than up for the challenge of making the most of that huge new “room”
