The sunshine was out again today so a little trip across the island was in order for a beer by the beach and some conversation with locals.
So out came the EUC and I was off to Leros Castle. Up hill and down dale across “open” road and through what felt like goat cart tracks, the little EUC carried me along until I reached the castle far up on top of the hills. Quite a climb but the little beast is up for it, pulling my considerable mass up steep inclines without drama.
We left the Marina in cold but sunny weather after a mornings work.
Rode up the hill and into the next bay, followed the directions from Google which is guaranteed to get you into trouble, and I was soon heading down a goat track that was so vertical it was hard to make the corners whilst breaking on the EUC.
But I made it out of there and up a hill, past the neighbourhood cafe where locals were enthralled at this idiot on a circus creation coming whizzing past fast on his electric one wheel contraption :-).
One asked for a try… but after attempting to stand on it stationary… he decided it was too risky for him stating “I break my head on this … you’re welcome to it my friend”.
But that lead me onto view like this…..
Then up the steep hill to the old castle where I could look down onto the next heart shaped bay and relax in the sunshine before heading back down to the beach
Only a few hours break from my chores and in the sunshine but a glorious ride through Leros country side. A lovely place to be in the sun before the cold returns to my bones :-).
Oh for those that are interested in the little EUC, Its a Kingsong S18 and today it managed :
‘I’m on my way
Driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to Tiny Dancer
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real
When we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill”
