TODAY I LEARNED

Fresh water makes for a quiet Boat!!

If you want to get your blocks, lines and line routing on your boat to squeak, groan and creak like an old sailing vessel, just add salt.

When sailing for a while your lines become quite salty and then under higher loads they will creak something horrible, sounding like the breaking limit is just about to be reached.

This was particularly panicking my Admiral, during a vigorous Bora wind sail, with strong gust filled in with lulls…. but a cup of fresh water poured over the most offending clutch and all was quiet again.

Fresh water, flushing out that salt. One of your greatest maintenance procedures.
