The sails and rigging on your boat are what you use to get where you’re going. More importantly if anything goes wrong with them the consequences can be hugely out of proportion to the effort needed to avoid it in the first place.
Get used to checking your sails, raising them in calm weather and inspecting, climbing the mast and making sure all your different parts are in good working order, have good lock wire and no serious wear.
When you first start, there will be LOTS you miss or don’t understand, but go and inspect anyway. The more you do it, the more you’ll notice, the more you’ll learn about what is a relatively simple machine and the more confident you’ll become as an offshore sailor.
